Buying a Corset: What Actually Matters
The single biggest difference between a corset that lasts for years and one that fails in weeks is the boning. A genuine corset uses steel — spiral steel for flexibility around the body and flat steel beside the busk and grommets for structure. Anything with plastic boning is a fashion top, not a corset, and it will buckle and roll the first time you lace it firmly.
The second factor is fit. Corset sizing is based on the closed waist of the corset, not your dress size, so you order about four inches under your measured natural waist. Get those two things right — real steel boning and the correct reduction — and a corset is comfortable, supportive and genuinely shaping.
